COMMUNITY/WOMEN EMPOWERMENT ACTIVITIES

Social education/women’s empowerment interventions have been promoted in several States covering specially the common women. This has led to formation of women's associations/several hundred SHGs/Farmers' Organisations, Youth clubs etc. This activity aims to enhance women's status, enable their leaderships and decision making power, provide openings for participation in Govt. schemes, micro-credit/small businesses. 98% repayment was ensured so, DESI got an AWARD from U.P. Govt.. Legal literacy schemes have been initiated to help women get justice and protection from victimization. Some notable trends due to women’s empowerment are: Increase in girl child education, election of poor dalit/tribal women to panchayat posts including President, closure of liquor shops by women’s groups, repair of school buildings by SHG women through SHG income, better access to health facilities etc. due to targeted education on health rights, improvement in children's education as SHGs financed tuition centres with their own savings.
