About Us


DESI is a registered national NGO managing and facilitating multi-sector socio-economic activities, training and research. DESI was registered under the Indian Public Charitable Trust Act on 29-12-1995. DESI is a secular, peace promoting professionally managed organisation comprising a team of dedicated professionals and social activists who have had exciting and wide-ranging experience with organizations of standards and repute. DESI is headed by C.Joseph Perianayagam, MSW, LLB who has 30 years of development/Donor/NGO experience.

With professional approach from concept to completion, DESI’s efforts have led to several successes such as educational scholarships for HIV affected families’ children, illiterate poor women without any assets acquiring more than one asset from SHG income, reduction of untouchability, improved livelihoods for poor women including minorities, increase in green cover, introduction of renewable sources of energy, networking of NGOs from different States who have been equipped to


work on rights based approach focusing better on poorer sections specially women. Recently DESI was instrumental in completing singlehandedly the planning documents for the sanction of a Health and Nutritional Project for UN sanction of Rs.57 lks in M.P to cater to Saharia Tribals in 3 districts.

Our Mission


DESI was set up to empower the poorer sections specially the S.C./S.T./B.C./Minorities through self-help efforts for reducing the discrimination these excluded communities have been facing, improve health conditions of all needy groups, promote self-reliance through SHGs and feasible poverty alleviation schemes, increase productivity, transform backward areas through environment promotion and sustainable interventions.

In this process, we promote participatory governance and workable democratic institutions of the poorer sections who can independently work for realizing the dream of social and gender equality.
