SKILLS /VOCATIONAL TRAINING/LIVELIHOODS PROMOTION - Several Thousand women have benefited in several States. In U.P. alone we have covered more than 3000 common women.

DESI, during various periods, has conducted Skills/ vocational training for the poorer sections who are the unemployed young people both men and women. Several trades have so far been covered under this component viz.: Garment making, Bag making, Leather Jacket Making, Vegetable and Fruits businesses, Furniture shops, Grocery Shops, Agro-trading, Cosmetics shop, etc. are some businesses. We also arranged micro-credit for SHG members through which these businesses picked up, so much so, the loan repayment rate was 98% for which DESI received AWARDS from U.P. Govt. Honey production: Honey is a highly demand oriented commodity. Training in honey production for the farmers of Maksudpur village led to honey production. There is steady market in urban areas. We have also conducted training in Beautician course for young women, electrician training for boys as there is growing demand for electricians as Ghaziabad District is the fastest growing District of Asia. Community Based Organisations in other States too have been trained in promoting various vocational training in their respective belts such as mushroom cultivation, basket making, woollen knitting, carpet designing, hallow blocks bricks, animal husbandry including rabbit rearing, horticultural promotion, envelop making, screen printing, nurseries promotion etc.
