DESI RECEIVED AWARD FROM U.P. GOVT FOR WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT - FORMATION OF SHGs AND ENABLING 98% LOAN REPAYMENT OF LOANS TAKEN & SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSES/LIVELIHOODS.

DESI formed several hundred SHGs in 3 districts of Western U.P. with funding from NABARD. DESI adopted integrated approach of not only forming SHGs but also skills development of the members in feasible business schemes with micro-credit from Prathama Bank (now merged with PNB). The loan repayment was 98% besides marked social transformations among the members such as better self-confidence, better girl child education, repeat loans which shows their entrepreneurship skills, better unity among diverse cultural population, better health and hygiene etc.
